Luke 6:35 New Living Translation (NLT)

35 “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.

Loving one’s enemies is easy to say, but hard to do!  When we love our enemies, we are emulating our Father in Heaven, who finds our love for the unlovable congruent with his will.
As I reflect on this verse, I can categorize myself as one who is often unthankful.  The effort is likely not trying to not have a bad attitude but simply  manifesting a good attitude. Having a thankful spirit, an attitude of gratitude is infectious!  A whistle on your walk, or singing someone else’s name when you see them……. that might be appropriate at times.  Holding the door for another, writing a note of encouragement, including the difficult people in prayers when retiring for the night……
When I believe that God is kind to difficult people, I am sure that I can be loved as well!
